The Academy for Educational Studies (AES) Board of Directors is seeking a new editor/editorial team for the two journals hosted by the Academy: Critical Questions in Education (CQIE) and Thresholds in Education (TIE).
CQIE is a traditional, online/open access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published three times annually (January, June, and October) and was first published in January of 2010.
TIE is a guest edited (by proposal or invitation) theme issue journal published 1-3 times annually and has existed since 1975. In 2015, AES took over TIE; revised its focus as well as its look; and, converted it from a print-only publication to an online/open access publication.
General Responsibilities (more detail will be provided for applicants):
- oversee the entire submission, review, and formatting process
- work with AES web team to publish each issue
- submit individual published articles to several indexing databases (EBSCO, ERIC, etc.)
- additionally for TIE: review theme issue proposals and/or identify theme issues and invite qualified scholars to serve as guest editors
Start Date: January, 2026
Compensation: TBD
Time Period: three years with the opportunity to renew for another three years
The selected editor will meet the following minimum qualifications (in the case of editorial teams, the lead editor will meet the following minimum qualifications):
- a terminal degree in Education or an Education-related discipline
- tenure status (or its equivalent) in an Education or Education-related academic unit at an accredited college or university
- record of publication in Education or an Education-related discipline
- experience serving as a manuscript reviewer
- a passion for publishing
Preferred Qualifications:
- experience serving as an editor (books, journals, etc.)
- full professor status (or its equivalent) in an Education or Education-related academic unit at an accredited college or university
- background working with or on websites using WordPress or equivalent web development process
- experience with both APA 7 and Chicago style formatting
- a collaborative approach to work
- knowledge of Creative Commons Copyright
